Journey through the many steps involved in the drug development process, including 1) high through put screening to find compounds that might be drug candidates, 2) animal trials to examine safety and efficacy, 3) an Investigational New Drug (IND) application, and 4) phase I, II and III clinical trials in humans. If a medicine makes it through all steps, it can be approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat a disease.
